In the 1980′s and 1990′s I lived at Holden Village, a Christian retreat center in the beautiful and majestic Cascade Mountains of Washington State. In this setting our community either read or welcomed some of the great Christian writers of that time and before – Douglas John Hall, John Howard Yoder, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Marcus Borg, Elisabeth Schussler Fiorenza, Martin Luther King, Jr., and John Dominic Crossan – to name a few. We were deeply changed by their call to radical discipleship. I remember wishing that someone some day would gather their insights into one succinct and readable book. Upon reading Terry Kyllo’s book, I said to myself, “It has happened!”
