ts 2:42-47
Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
Reflection
The people in the community of Jesus were being saved. Saved means being healed from the culture of Roman domination to the Kindom of God. They ate food with glad and generous hearts and shared what they had for the needs of each. Instead of competing for status, they found their unity in diversity as holy children of the Holy One. Instead of stealing from each other, they shared. The Kindom of God is grace and love lived out in everyday life.
Instead of creating an exclusive in-group, they continued to grow a community dedicated to seeing the humanity of each person and the value of every group.
They created a new in-group, which was open to people of all cultures. Participating in the Kindom of God in real life is called salvation.
Jesus calls us to do the same and, with glad and generous hearts, praise God for the blessing of embodying, if only imperfectly, God’s Kindom come on earth as it is in heaven.
